Chopping Mall (1986)

The Park Plaza Mall has just gotten a team of 3 security robots that are "foolproof". On the night they go online a group of teens decide to have a party in the Furniture King, owned by two of the teens' uncle. Lightening strikes the area on the top of the mall that houses the robots and they kill the technicians. After the mall closes the robots come out, kill two of the teens and trap the others in a storage room while the mall locks down completely until sunrise. The two smart ones out of the group, Alison Parks (Maroney) and Ferdy Meisel(O'Dell) seem to be the only ones that come up with plans that work and actually make them work. The six teens must destory the robots before they all get killed.

The first time I saw this on tv it said "Killbots" so I had no idea how to find it on video so I could watch it from the beginning. Kelli Maroney was awesome in this movie and opposite her character in Night of the Comet (except she's pretty handy with firearms). Running around a mall in the middle of the night just seems like fun, especially if it's scary. What's ironic about this film is that the robots are called "protectors" and after they kill someone they say "Thank you, have a nice day." If you saw 1982's Eating Raoul you might recognize Paul (Bartel) and Mary (Woronov) Bland who make cameos in the beginning of the film. Woronov also starred in Night of the Comet (1984) with Maroney. 5 Drops
